Sun and Mars in tension: competition and irritation are possible. Play on the same team, not against each other. When one person’s Sun is square the other’s Mars, identity, direction, the pride of being oneself and desire, energy, a way of fighting rub against each other: a contact that stimulates, and asks for adjustment.
In synastry the aspect reads both ways: your Sun on their Mars, or their Sun on your Mars. The person whose planet is Sun brings identity, direction, the pride of being oneself; the one whose planet is Mars brings desire, energy, a way of fighting. The square creates productive friction: both want something, not in the same way, and the relationship grows every time the friction becomes a dialogue.
The lever of a tense aspect: translate the friction into words before it becomes a reproach. The Sun seeks to be seen and recognised; Mars seeks to act and to be desired. When each understands what the other seeks, the tension becomes shared energy.
